The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans issued by the United States on five Europeans involved in fighting online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were at the heart of campaigns to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
